How You
Can Help
To keep horses away from auctions, where horses are sold for slaughter, owners
can...
Sell or give their horses
to a trusted friend. Donate their horses to an organization such as a
stable that gives lessons
or a therapeutic riding center.
Request that a
rescue group take their horses in.
As a last resort, the euthanization of horses is much more
humane than sending them to slaughter.
To
help prevent horses from being stolen and taken to slaughter
houses...
Put locks on all gates and doors to areas
that hold horses to discourage thieves. Watch for and investigate
unusual activity around the barn.
Microchip your horses—or have
some other means of identifying them.
Register your horses with
organizations such as Stolen Horse International.

To support the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act...
Educate people about the
cruelty of horse slaughter.
Volunteer at a local
horse rescue facility. Create/sign petitions to end
horse slaughter.
Write letters to
your legislators
in support of the Prevention of Equine Cruelty Act.
Give time and/or money to
anti-slaughter organizations and horse rescue groups.
