Correction Effects Pack E1 -- Tips     Previous  |  Next

The concept behind this Pack is to add many practical effects to Movie Maker that can fix everyday project problems. Examples include:

To color-correct clips that are too 'hot' or red, try the Tone Cool, Tone Cooler or Tone Coolest effects in this Pack. Each is progressively stronger.

To color-correct clips that are too 'cool' or blue, try the Tone Warm, Tone Warmer or Tone Warmest effects in this Pack. Each is progressively stronger.

To correct clips that are over- or under-exposed, try the Contrast effects in this Pack. Six variations are available, in strengths of -10, -30, -50, +10, +30 and +50. Mixing in Movie Maker's built-in Brightness, Decrease and Brightness, Increase effects may also help.

You can apply the same effect to a clip more than once, or mix and match various strengths to further customize the look. This is especially handy with Correction effects. To increase contrast by +80, for example, you can apply both the Contrast +30 and Contrast +50 effect to the same clip.

If you have clips that are not white balanced properly from a camcorder, resulting in an odd tint, or to simply add a creative tint to your scene, experiment with our many Tint effects in this Pack.

To crop
fringe noise or unwanted distractions out of a clip, use our collection of Crop effects. Six Crop All effects trim all four frame edges simultaneously, each by a different % of the frame width (.5%, 1%, 2%, 4%, 8%, 16%). Four Crop Bottom/Left/Right/Top effects trim a single frame side -- useful for visual problems on any side. The effects can be applied repeatedly to the same clip to increase the crop amount. Note that the red edge(s) in the effect's icon shows where the crop occurs.

Movie Maker's built-in Grayscale effect is a basic way to eliminate all colors from a clip. Our three Desaturate effects (Desaturate, Desaturate More, Desaturate Most) in this Pack give you more flexibility, allowing you to vary the strength of the grayscale look.

For a soft, dreamy look, try our slight or progressive blurs. Blur In and Blur Out increase or decrease the blur amount during the effect. Blur Slight and Blur Slight More provide smaller blur increments than Movie Maker's built-in Blur effect. By mixing and matching our Blur effects, you can customize the blur amount easily to the look you desire.
